Obituary for David Lester Barraclough

David Lester Barraclough passed away on November 2, 2017 at Marjorie House in McMinnville, Oregon, at age 94.

Born in Washington Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, David was one of seven sons and one daughter born to John and Maude Barraclough.

After returning from WWII, David married Marion Ottman, they later moved from their home in North Tonawanda, New York, to Sturgis, South Dakota, and then to Lead, South Dakota, where they raised their children, Toby, Crystal, and Scott. David later married Ida Pier from Lead, and moved to McMinnville, Oregon, where he remained.

David loved to garden, hunt, travel, and work. He was also an avid board game and card player and loved fly fishing and ice fishing in the Black Hills, salmon fishing in Alaska, and fishing and crabbing in Oregon, particularly at Netarts Bay. He was also a long time member of the Methodist Church.

David is survived by daughters Crystal (David), son Scott (Mary) and daughter-in-law, Barb (Barraclough) as well as eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Bunny Zeller, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, Toby, granddaughter Jeni (Barraclough), and wife Ida, and was the last remaining member of his birth family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, November 8, at Macy & Son in McMinnville, Oregon. A military service and burial will be held in Sturgis, at a later date. The family wishes to thank friends from Brookdale, the loving staff at Marjorie House, the angels of Kindred Hospice, and amazing friends Gene and Phyllis Johnson who devoted themselves to Dad for so many years.
