Obituary for Dorothy Louise Hatch

Dorothy Hatch passed away October 31, 2017 at the age of “85 good healthy years” (as she would say). Dorothy was born July 2, 1932 to parents Marit and Frieda Andrews in Yakima, Washington. Dorothy’s family moved several times and then settled in Rathdrum and Spirit Lake, Idaho where Dorothy met and married George Hatch. They moved from Idaho to Riverside, California and then to Oregon and the family farm in 1963, where they raised their five children (plus a couple of extra strays).
They became true Oregonians and the family farm became known to local residents as Hatchville. (Most of the Hatch clan lived within a quarter mile of Dorothy).
She felt blessed to be able to watch her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play on the local sports teams. She could often be seen sitting in the bleachers cheering on her favorite team!
When Dorothy was not at a school event, she was planning the family hunting trip to Eastern Oregon or fishing trip to the coast. After fishing, she made her children or anyone she could get go clamming. (Not just clamming, but cleaning the clams afterwards, too!)
Dorothy loved adventures and often would decide to take a cross country trip to visit relatives in other states. She loved to travel!
In between her travel adventures, she was busy planting her garden and flower beds. She had fresh flower arrangements, which she took pride in arranging, from the time the first flower bloomed until the last dahlia quit blooming.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband in 1991, a son, Jeep in 2007, and a niece, Raeline in 2014. After her son’s death, the family created a special time each Sunday known as “Sunday Morning Coffee with Mom”. Each Sunday, many family members would gather at her home to have coffee and catch up on weekly events, discuss the most recent game, and hear about the current shenanigans of the grandkids! Then Dorothy would dispense her great wisdom, whether we wanted to hear it or not. At any family gathering, Dorothy was in her element!
Dorothy is survived by her children; Tom (Mona), Penny (Dennis), Beverly, Toni, and JoDee (Randy). She has 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
She was a very wise woman and the true Matriarch of our family. We will all miss her.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Amity Education Foundation, her favorite charity. Services will be in the pioneer spirit: Please feel free to wear flannel, red, or plaid. If you don’t have those, then just be comfortable. (Don’t buy new; she was frugal.) Services will take place Sunday, November 5, in the Multipurpose Room at Amity High School and will be potluck style.
