Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" May Glaze

Elizabeth “Betty” May Glaze passed away peacefully on June 10, 2018 at the age of 93 years old. Betty was born on October 4th, 1924 in a logging camp in McGlyn, Oregon. She was the only child of Charles and Beryl Johnson. Betty attended a one room school house at Mason Hill and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1942. In her younger years she worked for a local dentist and Montgomery Wards and in 1944 she enlisted in the Army Air Corp. She was stationed at Bowman Field in Kentucky and then was transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During her time in the Women’s Air Corp (WAC) her squad of 5 Wac’s were known as the “Looney Tunes”. Betty kept in close contact with her squad throughout the years and was the last surviving member. She was discharged as a Corporal in October 1946.
In 1948, Betty met the love of her life, Luther, in Illinois. They were married on December 7, 1950 in Stevenson, Washington. They lived in many different locations throughout the years and settled in Carlton where they lived for over 30 years. Together they raised 9 children: Mike, Sue Phillips, Doug, Kim Carr, Tammy Palen and Mary Lunsford. She had 22 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Betty was a proud Veteran, a breast cancer survivor at 89 years old and a passionate animal lover. She was a strong, brave woman with a heart of gold and loved everyone she met. She was a sweet and loving mother, but could also be a bit sassy and a firecracker at times! She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Luther, her parents, son Chuck and daughter Loni. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Breast Cancer Society, Wounded Warriors or the Homeward Bound Animal Shelter in her honor.
May you rest in peace Mom . . . you will never be forgotten and your light will continue to shine as your legacy lives on in your family.
