Obituary for Frederick Carl Rigwood

Frederick C. Rigwood went home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2017. Fred was born in Grand Mound, WA on July 13th, 1940. To some he went by ‘Fred’ while to others he was ‘Pastor Fred’, but he was respected and loved by all. During his early years Fred lived with his family in Washington, New Rockford, ND and finally in Livingston, MT where he finished his schooling and learned the value of hard work. He worked on a ranch herding sheep, cattle and riding horses. He never quite out grew his inner cowboy. Fred gave his heart to the Lord when he was very young and he remained a faithful follower of Jesus Christ all of his life. Fred knew early that he was destined to be a pastor, a calling he never wavered from. He attended Bible School in Estavan, SK (Canada) as well as Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, CA. He also completed course work through Bible School of Theology and received his Doctorate Degree in Ministry. As a young man he was a youth pastor at First Assembly of God Church in Hillsboro, OR. During his life time Fred focused on planting churches and mentoring people. He pastored churches in Hillsboro, Cornelius, Tri-Cities, WA and McMinnville, having spent the last five years of his ministry at McMinnville First Assembly of God Church (now known as Praise Assembly). He also served as a Chaplain to the Yamhill County Sherriff’s Department. Fred was a jack of all trades, he never met an engine he couldn’t fix but he was equally at home with a hammer or power drill in his hand. Because he was a pastor of small churches he was bi-vocational, following an outside career and ministering to congregations at the same time. He was a dynamic man who was full of energy and possessed a love for God and the people he ministered to along the way. Fred spent the past 4 months of his life at Marjorie House Memory Care Center in McMinnville, there he was the resident pastor and in that role again touched lives. Fred was dearly loved and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Judy, sons Brian (and wife Laurie) and Stephen Rigwood, and daughters Pam Pearce (husband Curt), Jennifer Welch (husband Keith) and 8 grandchildren, Allison & Ariel Rigwood, Joe, Kayla, Krysta and Jessica Welch and Sean and Sarah Duncan. He is also survived by three siblings, Bob who lives in Alabama and Dick and Carolyn who both live in Livingston MT.
Memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s name to Praise Assembly to support various ministries and missions.
