Obituary for Frederick Henry DeRaeve

Frederick Henry DeRaeve died on June 21, 2018 at his home in Amity, Oregon. He was 94 years old. He was born on April 12, 1924 on his parent’s home place in Amity. His parents, Alfonse and Maria DeRaeve, immigrated from Westvletern, Belgium. He lived his whole life in Amity.
He graduated from Amity High School in 1942. He loved sports and was on the Amity championship football team with his brother George. On May 4, 1947 he married Olga Jean Brutke and had a wonderful marriage of 65 years until Olga’s death in 2012. They farmed together and created a wonderful place to raise their family. They worked side by side raising various crops. Fred ran the combine and Olga drove the truck for the annual wheat harvest.
Fred was a member of St. James Catholic Church, McMinnville Elks club, Amity Co-op, and a local pinochle group. He loved to fish and hunt and made numerous trips to eastern Oregon to hunt deer and elk with close friends. He enjoyed trap shooting, gardening, and grew pumpkins for each of his grandchildren every year.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Albert, George, and Marvin. He is survived by his sister, Marguerite Bernards and two daughters, Barbara Heuberger (Cletus) and Diane Van Hoy (Jeff). Fred is also survived by four grandchildren, Alan Heuberger (Jenni) and Nicole Brown (Chad), Brian Van Hoy (McKenzie) and Alison Salvo (Chris); and six great grandchildren.
Viewing services will be held Tuesday, July 3 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at Macy and Son Funeral Home in McMinnville, Oregon. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, July 5 at St. James Catholic Church in McMinnville, Oregon starting at 11:00 am, preceded by a Rosary at 10:30 am.
