Obituary for Janice Joyce (Skaggs) Finegan

On January 29, 2018, Janice Joyce Skaggs Finegan, surrounded by her family, joined her beloved husband Roy G. Finegan in heaven. She was 80 years young.
Janice was the seventh child born to Marsh Skaggs and Elizabeth (Joyce) Skaggs on April 7th, 1937 in Roseburg, Oregon. She lived in Camas Valley with her parents and nine brothers and sisters until they relocated to Portland in the 1940’s. In 1955 she graduated from Jefferson High School.
In 1956, she met the love of her life, Roy “Bud” Finegan while he was stationed in Portland while serving in the Navy. They were married in Stevenson, WA on September 15th, 1956 and spent the next 13 years stationed from coast to coast until Roy’s retirement from the Navy in 1969. In 1976 they moved back to Oregon and settled in Dayton.
Janice was active in several organizations in Dayton, but her true joy was her family. She and Roy had four children, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She always tried to make ordinary events extraordinary. Grandchildren and great grandchildren could look forward to tea parties on fine china, fairy hunts, snow picnics, advent calendars at Christmas and beautiful holiday decorations and surprises for every holiday.
She loved to entertain both family and friends and few people set a table as beautiful as she did. You were in for a real treat if you were invited for a brunch, lunch, dinner or even bunco, along with royal treatment. There was never a stranger and there was always room for an extra place at the table.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roy, in 2007, her son, Roy Finegan, Jr. in 2016, four brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Kellene Payne (Mark) of Carlton, Debby Watson (James) of Calabasas, Ca., and Laura Taylor of Dayton, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.
There will be private graveside with a Celebration of Life on February 10th. To leave online condolences, please visit www.macyandson.com
She was a woman of grace, generosity and love that will never be replaced in our hearts. We were blessed to have her in our lives. Until we meet again…
