Obituary for Katherine A. Luton

With great sadness, the family of Katherine Ann Luton announces her passing on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the unfairly young age of 52. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, lying in bed next to the love of her life Pat (her PJ baby) Jensen and her two fur babies Hawkeye and Hatchi curled at her feet.
Kathy (Kat) will be eternally remembered by her “Shining Stars” children Charina and Nichlas, her beautiful bundle of joy her “Gammie-baby” Payzlen, stepchildren Russell and Daniel, step-grandson Raylan (Little RayRay), sister Suzanne, brothers Stephen and Dennis, Aunt and Godmother Anne, nieces and nephews, many loving cousins, and a wonderful amount of family and friends. She loved each and every one with all her heart.

Kathy’s adventure for life led her across the nation, from her birthplace of Michigan to Colorado to settling down in Oregon. Through her journey of life, she planted love and happiness in everyone she met. She could make everyone smile with her genuine love for life and people. It was only fitting with her personality that after volunteering as a candy striper, she was pulled to nursing. She earned her Associates degree to become a registered nurse through night school while working as a medical assistant and raising two young children. For over 30 years, she put the needs of those around her over her own, never once thinking twice. With her immense compassion and endless energy, she kept everyone close with her special phone calls, letters and drop by visits.

Never one to be idle, Kathy was always doing something: from a passion for cooking to tending her colorful garden full of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Her specialty was growing jalapeños for making her famous sweet and spicy jalapeños jelly. Always keeping her fingers moving, she loved creating crafts especially her kids and fur babies Halloween costumes and most recently her “Gammie-baby’s” Booberry and Strawberry-parfait costumes. She enjoyed camping with her family and taking trips to the beach (even during the winter). Along with watching Christmas movies all year long, she had to walk through every yard sale she saw in search of unique knickknacks.

Above all, her heart was dedicated to making her house a happy and welcoming home, full of warmth and love!

For far too many years, she battled several medical conditions, while being a proud breast cancer survivor. Even during the hard times, her fiery spirit and ironclad will, always kept a smile on her face and love in her heart. She was always there for family and friends making sure, we knew she was thinking about us by calling, mailing cards and text messages for birthdays, holidays or just ‘she was thinking of us’ days.

As a Mom (‘Muffum’ by Charina), she did her best to give her kids everything they needed. Whether it was getting Nichlas a dirt bike, sewing blankies for Charina’s pony, giving them a warm hug, offering a calming and supportive voice, or simply being someone for them to vent to, she was there. She was extremely excited to learn how to use Skype allowing her to video chat with her kids and watching her “Gammie-baby” grow.

Nichlas recalls his Mom saying, “Cry as much as you need, wipe away the tears, then get out there and celebrate my life!” She wanted a party with everyone who loved her to remember and celebrate the lasting mark she left within them.
Our beautiful Kathy, beloved Mom, has gone to join her parents, Angela and John Peneyra. You will always be forever loved and cherished in our hearts. We love you!

“I love you always”
Quote by Pat, as they would write to each other
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
Anonymous quote, found by Charina
"Mom, you're my person. I love you so very, very much!"
Quote by Nichlas
"What an awesome Mom and Sister. Kathy you will be missed dearly."
Quote by Dennis
“My beautiful Sis, you were the best Big Sis a Sis could ask for. I will forever admire you and look up to you. Love you Sis, we’ll do dim sum when we’re together again.”
