Obituary for Ralph W. Nichols, Sr.

Ralph W. Nichols, Sr. passed away on April 9, 2017.

He was born on October 4, 1921 to Louie and Mary Alice (Neely) Nichols in Guthrie, Missouri. He grew up in Jefferson City, Missouri. He enlisted on January 30, 1943 in the U.S. Army. He served as a cook and a rifleman, in both Germany and France during WWII. He received two bronze stars, as well as a Good Conduct Medal.

Ralph married Alene Tipton on October 11, 1940, in Holt Summit, Missouri. They moved to Forest Grove, Oregon in 1953, before settling in Yamhill, Oregon. They moved to McMinnville in 1977.

Ralph worked for Stimpson Wood Mill in Gaston, OR and for Rex Mobile Homes in McMinnville in the mid 60’s. He eventually retired from Tigard School District as a Custodial Engineer.

Ralph loved fishing, horseshoes, hunting, dancing and especially bowling. He also enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved coaching his sons in sports and spending time with family. Ralph especially enjoyed the companionship of his dog Missy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alene and wife, Alma Sitton and daughter Linda Perkins. Siblings, Dorothy Goldammer, Richard Lee Nichols, and Charles Nichols. Ralph is survived by his children: Carolyn Sue Love, Dean Nichols, Joyce Yeaman, Ralph Nichols, Keith Nichols, Sam Nichols, Larry Nichols and Ed Nichols, 23 grandkids, 37 great grandkids, and 15 great great grandkids. Ralph is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 15th at Baker Creek Community Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice, or the Marjorie House Memory Care in McMinnville.
