Toivo Richard Taskinen, 87, died Tuesday, March 28, at his home in McMinnville with his family.
He was born in Portland, OR to Oscar Taskinen and Sylvia M. Herrala Taskinen on July 17, 1929. He spent his early life on a small farm in Hopewell, the middle child of five siblings. He attended grade school in Fairview at a small country school and high school in Amity, OR.
He enlisted in the Army and spent most of his time in Germany, being discharged in 1953. He married Florence Jenkins and they had one son, Richard J. Taskinen, who joined two step-brothers and one step-sister. They later divorced and he married Darleen McFarlan Carlson on September 4, 1977.
Richard was part owner of N-T Trailer Repair and the T & J Trailer Repair for many years. After selling the business, he worked for Bill Lucas doing custom baling, after which he worked for Bob and Arlene Luoto, finally retiring at age 85. He was a member of McMinnville B.P.O.E.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years and son Richard J. Taskinen, five step-children, and 7 step-grandchildren, two sisters; Ila Sperling of Portland and Ellen Farrington of McMinnville, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Jean Ranieri and a brother Benjamin O. Taskinen.
Macy and Son will conduct graveside services at Hopewell Cemetery on April 6, 2017 at 2:00pm.
