Milton Fanning passed away on March 18, 2017 at home with his family by his side. He was born on June 6, 1926 on the family farm in Ballston, Oregon to Baylis and Althea Fanning. He was raised living and farming the land and only left to serve two years in the Navy and then attend Oregon State College. It was there he met his wife of 67 years, Delores. He graduated with his degree in Agricultural Engineering in June 1951 and returned home to run the farm. Milton and Delores raised four children, three sons and one daughter. Milton belonged to the Yamhill County Sheriff's Posse and served on the Ballston and Amity School Boards for over 30 years. He was a life member of the Oregon Wheat League, and Masonic and Elks Lodge. He was also a 4-H leader for the rifle club in Polk County.
Milton dedicated his life to his family and his land, which became a Century Farm in 2012. He found the most enjoyment working in the field and was still out on the tractor for the last harvest. During the winter he spent his time happily watching westerns and rodeos. He loved his family and enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching their many sporting events and activities throughout the years.
Milton is survived by his wife, Delores, sons Doug (Ardie), and Dan, daughter Eileen, sister Beverly, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Logan, and son Michael.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Chapel of Macy & Son, 135 N.E. Evans Street, McMinnville. A private family burial will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Sheridan Fire Department.
