Violet Kobes-Gurr died on February 10, 2012 at her home in Sheridan at the age of 93. Violet Kobes-Gurr was born to Albert and Sofia Groeber Kobes of Dusseldorf, Germany on September 16, 1918. They later settled in Mitchell, SD where Violet attended school.
Violet grew up as a hard working, independent and strong woman that is destined for Sainthood. Violet met her late husband Wesley Gurr and raised her family on a farm on Harmony Road where she enjoyed crocheting, making family meals and working in her beautiful yard and garden. She also enjoyed working as a waitress at the old "Chat-n-Chew Café" in Sheridan in the 1960's then later at John's Bakery.
Violet is survived by her daughters Ramona DeJong of Sheridan and Shirley Smith of Santa Rosa, CA; grandchildren Kris DeJong, Karly DeJong, Kelly DeJong Givens, Linda Wood, Erica Asuncion, Wesley Pool and great grandchildren Violet DeJong, Layla Smith, Butch Pool, Karis Asuncion, Kyler Asuncion and Patty Asuncion. She was preceded in death by her husband Wesley Gurr and son Daniel Gurr.
Graveside services will be held at Greencrest Cemetery, Sheridan, on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at 2:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice in care of Macy and Son. To leave private online condolences, please visit www.macyandson.com
