Obituary for Lois Brooks

Lois Brooks was born in Ithica, Nebraska, February 9, 1927, the fourth daughter to William Calvin Brooks and Mary Matilda (Mattie) Dorman Brooks. She moved to Buhl, Idaho in December of 1929, where Dad was employed by his brother in law, Glen Brooks (no relation) on his turkey farm. They left there in the Spring of 1930 and settled in a small house just south of Kelly Lumber Co., where Dad found work. That fall, they moved to a 40 acre farm south of Springfield. She began 1st grade at Lincoln School, 2 ½ miles from home in September of 1933. She attended Bratton School (2nd and 3rd grade) then back to Lincoln for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.
The last two years of grade school, she spent at Glenwood Elementary and graduated from Springfield Union High School in 1945. The family moved to Walton, OR. Lois stayed in Eugene for eight years doing different jobs with 6 years of it spent at Title Abstract Co. In Fall of 1952, she attended Southern Oregon College with her sister, and graduated in 1956. She taught 2 years in Portland, OR. Then, she drove up the Alaska Highway and taught 2 years on Ft. Richardson, 1 year on Kodiak, 1 year in Nome, Alaska, 2 years at Memorial School in McMinnville, 1 year in Togiak, Alaska, Reedville Harney County, OR, and 13 years in Aleknagik and Togiak Alaska. She retired in 1985 and has lived in Yamhill, Oregon ever since.
Lois is predeceased by her mom, dad, five siblings, one brother in law, and two nephews. She is survived by sister Patty, brother in laws Ed and Jay, one niece and four nephews.
