Obituary for Marjorie Marie Browning

Marjorie Marie Browning (Hains) of McMinnville, OR passed away on March 9, 2018 at the age of 98.
Marjorie was born to parents Paul and Ellen Hains (Waters) on August 23, 1919 in Walt Hill, NE. She was the eldest of 3 daughters. Dorothy and Pauline completed the trio. She spent a part of her formative years living with her grandmother Waters and graduated from high school in Dawson, NE, along with the 7 others in her class.
Marjorie married Clyde Browning in Sioux City, Iowa and was blessed with her first child, Joni, on October 15, 1955. The new family packed up and moved to Folsom, CA that same year. Her second child, Larry, was born on January 15, 1957. The couple owned and operated 2 drive-in restaurants and a sit-down restaurant while in that locale. The family moved to Hemet, CA in 1966 and then to McMinnville, OR in 1970.
Marjorie worked for the Yamhill Co. Veterans office and St James School. She was a member and served on the executive board of the Pioneer Pantry, member of the Current Events Club, Pinochle Club and Bridge Club. She was a member of the 1st Methodist Church and was actively involved in Suzy Circle and UMW.
Marjorie cherished the time spent with her grandkids and loved them with all of her heart.
She enjoyed playing games, reading, crafts, and outings with friends, getting outdoors, the beach, hiking and travel. She traveled by car, bus, train, plane, boat and RV. She traveled by herself, with friends, with family, and with tour groups. She loved seeing and doing new things. Everywhere she went she immersed herself in the culture. She ate the food, danced the dance and embraced the traditions. She visited all 50 states, over a dozen countries on 3 continents, sailed the Caribbean and Mediterranean and through the Panama canal.
Marjorie has many “second families”: the Aldermans in Nebraska, the Archers in Texas, the Brownings in Arizona, and the “Brookdale” Family in McMinnville. She loved all of you.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Hains, son, Larry Browning, daughter in-law, Lori Browning and grandchildren, Erin Browning and Dustin Browning.
Marjorie had a strong belief and faith in God. She looked forward to meeting up again with family and friends that passed before her.
She chose not to have a Memorial Service.
She will be cremated. Her ashes will be scattered alongside her daughter Joni’s ashes in the Cascades.
Donations can be made in her name to the McMinnville Cooperative Ministries, the National Parks Foundation or any charity of your choosing. She believed strongly that every one of us needs a helping hand once in awhile, and if we have the ability, we ought to help.
