Chuck was born February 22, 1942, in Portland to Carl and Joan Gibson Szedlak. Chuck’s family lived in St. Helens, Oregon, before moving to Scappoose to his grandmother’s farm. Chuck’s early life revolved around sports, playing football, basketball, and baseball at Scappoose High School before graduating in 1960.
In 1963, Chuck married Barbara Wilson while both were attending the University of Oregon. After completing his degree in accounting in 1965, Chuck held a series of accounting and finance jobs first in Vancouver, Washington, then in Denver, Colorado, before settling in McMinnville in 1983. Even after retiring from the auto dealership business 20 years later, Chuck continued working, doing accounting for Modern Insurance.
Chuck is survived by his wife Barbara, son, Christopher Szedlak (Amy); daughter Robin Angevine (Ty); six grandchildren, Carly, Emme, Colson, Lucy, Lydie, and Abby, and three sisters, Carol Sauer, Susan Updike (Ed), and Sara Cunningham (Tom).
Chuck loved the ocean, especially spending time at the family home in Pacific City, Oregon. He also never lost his love of sports and was a fixture at his grandchildren’s sporting events, as well as at McMinnville High School and Linfield games.
At his request there will be no services.
Donations can be made to McMinnville High School Athletics.
