Obituary for Richard "Rick" Joseph Vierra

Richard Joseph Vierra (Rick) passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in his home on June 6, 2018.
Rick was born April 15, 1947 in Petaluma, California to Joseph and Angelina Vierra, and was raised on a dairy ranch in Sebastopol, California. He graduated from Analy High School in Sebastopol in 1965, where he played football and participated in FFA. Rick also attended Santa Rosa Community College.
In 1968, Rick joined the Army. He completed a four-year tour of duty in Korea and Germany during the Vietnam War. In 1973, Rick settled in McMinnville, Oregon. He worked as a journeyman lineman at McMinnville Water & Light and retired in 2003 after 30 years of service.
Rick married Sherry Wallace in 1990. They lived together in McMinnville and Dayton, Oregon for 28 years, where they raised cattle and managed a small farm.
Rick had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and four-wheeling with his family and friends. He was a gifted nature photographer and always had a camera on hand to capture the beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Angelina. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his daughter, Jennifer Wallace (Philip) of Denver; his sister, JoAnn Johnston (Jim) of Leaburg; his nephew, Damien Meskill (Kimberly) and their children, Garrett and Maya of McMinnville; and several extended family members.
At Rick’s request, no memorial service will be held. Instead, his family and friends will gather at a later date for a celebration of his life.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Serenity Hospice of the American Lung Association.
